TAKUMEN NEW YORK PRESENTS EXHIBITION VOL.17
Art Show / March 25th - June 2024
by Andrew Acacio
HEARTLAND
Hidden between Japan’s shimmering skyscrapers and bustling modern city life lies a world of tradition, overlooked neighborhoods, and fading remnants of the Shōwa Era. As a foreigner, I’ve been captivated by the layers of Japanese cities that often go unnoticed with their washed-out rusty buildings, old Shotengai, and the nostalgia of a bygone era. Since my first trip in 2010, Japan has become a place where I find inspiration, evolving through its cultural complexity and diversity. I strive to document and preserve the soul of Japanese neighborhoods, immortalizing the past and glory before it vanishes in the face of rapid change.
